De-Escalation Techniques: Foundational Skills, Amber McClain
Amber McLain is the current Member Services Manager for the Lakeland Library Cooperative and the former director of the infamously embattled Patmos Library. She is also a trained volunteer crisis counselor. Join Amber McLain, a librarian and trained crisis counselor, as she discusses how to listen to your body when in stressful situations, use empathy when in disputes or tense encounters, and de-escalate to help resolve conflicts both in and outside of the workplace. This presentation will cover both in-the-moment techniques as well as longer-term skills that will help you navigate difficult situations.
Ask the Attorney, Anne Seurnyck
Anne Seurynck has been practicing with Foster Swift's Administrative and Municipal Practice Group since her arrival at the firm. Her entire career has focused on the representation of municipalities and public entities. Anne has extensive experience in drafting and reviewing ordinances and policies, serving as general counsel, counseling clients on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Open Meetings Act issues, and working with communities on millage and Michigan Campaign Finance Issues.
Superhero Workshop, Jerry DeCaire
Jerry DeCaire is a Saginaw native and illustrator whose work has appeared in multiple comics since 1991. Decaire is one of the earlier artists for Deadpool (before he was cool), and he has illustrated many other characters for Marvel including Wolverine, Thor, Hawkeye, and Iron Man. His live-drawing performance/program shows the connections between science and mathemetics and the immortal superhero, in real-time. His own character, “The Which-When Man,” will soon debut for publication and distribution in 2025/2026.
Lacey Dunham, Author of The Belles
Lacey N. Dunham’s novel The Belles is forthcoming from Atria / Simon & Schuster in fall 2025. She has received support from the Elizabeth George Foundation, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Sewanee Writers Conference, and Catapult. Her writing has been published in Ploughshares, Kenyon Review, Witness, and elsewhere. Born and raised on a small family farm, she now lives in Washington, DC with too many books and only two cats.
